The Life, Death, and Afterlife of a Helmsdale Herring.

This exhibit was created by Luis Roberto Garcia Martinez under the supervision of Alan Miller.

The Scottish Herring Boom, taking place over the 19th and 20th century, saw over 200,000 Scots employed in the herring fishing industry. The Herring boom was a complex and highly interesting ordeal: involving herring gutting-women, international shipments, and elaborate techniques to catch herring.

This exhibit takes the player on a journey as a herring, exploring what it is like to live as a herring… as well as what it is like to die as one.
